Activities / Arts, Culture & Spiritual

There’s something about the light here, the smells of silence, and the soft wind blowing on the cheek that heal and nurture the soul. Whatever it is, the mystical peace of Eyeries and the surrounding area has attracted writers, painters, sculptures, and artists for many years. They come here for the breathtaking views. The welcoming people. The simplicity of joy that Eyeries offers.

They also come for the tapestry of cultural, historic, archaeological, and spiritual facets that are available in this joy-filled place.

Sarah Walker Gallery

The Pier, Castletownbere, County Cork
Tel: 027 70387  Mobile: 086 890 2338 Email: sarahwalker@eircom.net
Your Host: Sarah Walker

Visit the gallery on the waterfront at the far west end of The Pier, Castletownbere, Co. Cork. Less than a 10 minute drive from Eyeries, the gallary is housed in an old stone carriage house located right on the harbour.

"It's an eye catching structure, straddling both shore and sea. At high tide the building appears to be half-immersed in the water with waves lapping the walls on three sides. Inside it's all white, sparse and spacious, a pared back minimalism that contrasts with the rich colours of the paintings. At the far end a glass door opens onto a wooden walkway giving wave top views across the bay. It's a fantastic setting, a surprise to find an art gallery in the midst of fishing boats on a West Cork pier."
Christine O'Sullivan, www.beara.ie

Open Monday to Saturday 11 to 6 June through September and Easter & Christmas holidays or by appointment. Open most weekdays October through May. Please ring to check our schedules.

If you believe the legends, Eyeries is filled with angels. This refers not only to the people of the village but also to the spiritual beings who are supposed to populate the hedgerows, shores, fields, and hills to protect those who live here. Visit Eyeries and the soul of this place will breathe new life into you. And perhaps you’ll find your own angel at the same time...

A Spiritual Walk

We’ve already talked about the Beara Walk, but walking along the tranquil shores of Coulagh Bay is one of the most spiritual journeys you’ll ever take. Take your time to contemplate. Allow the breath of healing salt wind fill your heart. Release the stress of daily living by taking in the panoramic vistas of sea, mountains, and sky.

Or just experience the serene silence of this place. Within it, you will find yourself.

Dzogchen Beara

Dzogchen Beara is a Tibetan Buddhist Retreat centre under the spiritual direction of Sogyal Rinpoche, author of The Tibetan Book of Living and Dying. The Centre is situated on the wild and beautiful Beara Peninsula, just a few miles from Eyeries, and sits high on cliffs overlooking the Atlantic Ocean with breathtaking views of sea and sky. Many Tibetan masters, and almost everyone who visits, comment on the extraordinary qualities of Dzogchen Beara – its beautiful natural environment and atmosphere of profound peace which comes from deep spiritual practice. We welcome everyone, from all walks of life and of any faith or none, and offer many different ways to visit Dzogchen Beara.

Dzogchen Beara offers daily meditation located in contemplative rooms overlooking the Atlantic. All are welcome. Click here for more information on meditation or other aspects of this wonderful centre...

Getting there: drive through Castletownbere heading west. Look for Dzogchen Beara approx 20 minutes toward Allihies. You’ll see it signed on your Left Hand Side.
